Automation Specialist
Description
DataRealm is currently seeking an Automation Specialist to join our team. In this role, you would develop and support software and data solutions used within automated manufacturing environments. You will work with industrial automation systems, databases, and large manufacturing datasets to support system performance, reporting, and integration across production operations.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Develop software solutions that support industrial automation and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
- Write and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, views, indexes, database table structures and replication used for manufacturing data collection and reporting.
- Work with large datasets, including creating new data structures, modifying existing data, and supporting system integrations.
- Integrate software solutions with automation systems such as PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA platforms utilizing OPC-DA, OPC-UA, APIs and RESTful Interfaces.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software, database, and system integration issues.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and clients to understand operational requirements and develop appropriate solutions.
- Generate and maintain documentation related to software design, database structures, and system functionality.
- Support system deployment, testing, and ongoing improvements where required.
- Design, configure, and program automation and control systems using PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
- Maintain detailed documentation of design specifications, test results, and project progress, adhering to industry standards and regulations.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, new technologies, materials and compliance standards.
- Prepare wireframe design sketches on assigned projects.
- Develop, implement and adhere to design standards and modular designs.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in software development, automation systems, or manufacturing data systems or a related field.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States or be eligible for a TN Visa, as some of our projects are based in the U.S
- Strong experience working with Microsoft SQL and relational databases, including writing queries from the ground up, debugging/optimizing existing queries, managing large datasets.
- Experience developing software from scratch as well as modifying existing code.
- Proficiency with Python for scripting and system integrations.
- Experience with Ignition and Ignition Perspective is considered an asset.
- Experience working with Node-RED or similar integration platforms is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with industrial automation systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA) including platforms such as Rockwell or Siemens is considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate and work with clients in a professional manner both written and verbally.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to travel to client sites as needed.
- Ability to shift between multiple projects and tasks quickly.
